The Complete Maus: A Survivor's Tale, by Art Spiegelman
Non-Fiction 1980, 296 pages
Currently a banned book in Tennessee, this graphic novel is a haunting tale within a tale as it documents both therecollections of the holocaust told by Spiegelman’s father, Polish Jew, Wladyslaw Spiegelman and weaves in the author’s account of his tortured relationship with his aging father. It is an unforgettable story of survival and a disarming look at the legacy of trauma. In 1992 it won the Pulitzer Prize Special Award in Letters, becoming the first, and to date, the only graphic novel to be so recognized. Click here for ZOOM.
