Family Kol Nidre Services

Bringing the beauty and spirituality of the traditional service, this abbreviated service is designed for our members with earlier bedtimes. Everyone is welcome.

What to expect: This is a child-friendly exploration of the melodies and themes of one of the most sacred and beloved services of the Jewish year. We will sing Kol Nidre, Ashamnu, and Avinu Malkeinu as well as some more familiar prayers like the Shema. We will explore the importance of recognizing our mistakes, apologizing, and letting go through story and movement. Finally, we will set aside time for families to remember loved ones who are no longer with us, and we’ll help our children ritualize this remembrance.

What to wear: Wearing special clothing for a sacred occasion can help cue our children that this gathering is different from other gatherings, and that is a lovely and important thing. On Yom Kippur, there are special traditions of wearing white and avoiding leather or other “luxurious” types of clothing. With that said, Or Hadash always invites people to come as they are comfortable. Nobody will look askance at you if you don’t have time to go home and change everyone’s clothing. And if you are a practically-minded parent who doesn’t ever dress your young child in white (who would do that?), a blessing on your head – you are welcome here!

Where to park: We have a parking lot with your name on it! In the unlikely scenario that it is full when you arrive, the parking lot directly across the street from Or Hadash is available to you. Please cross Trowbridge road very carefully.
